Clivity

Privacy Policy

Last updated September 29, 2026

Draft — this document is a working draft and hasn't been reviewed by a lawyer yet. It will be finalized before Clivity launches.

Clivity is a family location app. It only works because you share sensitive information — especially where you are — with the people you choose. This policy explains what we collect, why, who can see it, and the choices you have. The short version:

  • Only your circle sees you. Your location and activity are shared only with people you share a circle with. There are no public profiles and no “people nearby.”
  • We don't sell your data or use it for advertising.
  • You're in control. You can pause sharing (for children, a parent manages this), leave a circle, and delete your account and data.

In this policy, “Clivity,” “we,” and “us” mean [Clivity legal entity name], [address]. “Circle” means a group of people who have chosen to share with each other in the app.

1. Information we collect

Account information

  • Your phone number, used to sign you in with a text-message code, or an identifier from Sign in with Apple. Your circle never sees your phone number.
  • Your name, your avatar (a bot you design, initials, an emoji, or a photo you upload), and what your family calls you in a circle (for example, “Dad”).
  • Your circles: which circles you belong to and your role in them (parent, child, or member).
  • If a parent sets up a device for a family member without a phone number (for example, an iPad), we create an account for that person that the parent manages.

Location

  • Precise location, including in the background when you allow “Always” access, so your circle can see where you are and get arrival and departure alerts. Your latest location is shared with your circle and replaced as you move.
  • Place visits: when you arrive at or leave a Place your circle has saved (like Home or School), we record that event so alerts and Cliff's watch rules can work.
  • Drives: when drive detection is on (it is by default), we record trips — route, speed, duration, and events like hard braking or speeding — to show drive history, replays, speed alerts, and weekly reports to you and, depending on circle settings, your circle's parents.
  • Whether your location is currently getting through (sharing on or off, location permission, and precise location), so parents can be alerted if a child's location stops sharing.

Motion and device information

  • Motion activity (for example, “in a vehicle”) to detect drives automatically. This is processed on your device.
  • Battery level and whether you're charging, device model, and app version, shown to your circle (for example, “low battery”) and used to keep the app working.
  • A push notification token so we can deliver alerts to your device.

Things you create or share

  • Messages, check-ins, SOS alerts, and nudges you send to people in your circles.
  • Places, to-dos and reminders, and alerts you set up (including ones Cliff drafts for you).
  • Calendars, only if you connect them and only the calendars you choose. We share each event's title, time, and location with your circle (or just “Busy,” if you pick that). We don't collect notes, attendees, or links. If you add a calendar link (for example, from a school or team), we store the link and download it periodically to keep events up to date.
  • Your conversations with Cliff and the reactions you add to them.

Contacts (optional)

If you let Clivity check which of your contacts already use it, phone numbers and emails from your address book are converted on your device into one-way hashes, and only those hashes are compared. We don't upload or store your contacts' names or numbers.

Usage information

We collect basic, pseudonymous information about how the app is used (for example, which screens are opened and whether features work) to find bugs and improve Clivity.

2. How we use information

  • To provide Clivity: show your circle on the map, send alerts, record drives, sync your family plan, and run Cliff.
  • To keep people safe, including SOS alerts and letting parents know when a child's location stops sharing.
  • To maintain, secure, debug, and improve the app.
  • To communicate with you about your account, support requests, and important changes.
  • To comply with the law and enforce our Terms.

We do not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use it to build advertising profiles.

3. Cliff, our AI assistant

When you talk to Cliff, your message and the information Cliff needs to answer it — such as your circle members' names, recent locations, places, drives, and family plan — are sent to our AI provider to generate a response. Cliff can only look up information you're already allowed to see. Our provider processes this data on our behalf to provide the service and, under our agreement, doesn't use it to train its models. Cliff can make mistakes; don't rely on it in an emergency.

4. Who can see your information

  • Your circles. People you share a circle with can see your location, battery, drives (as your circle's settings allow), check-ins, SOS alerts, shared calendar events, and to-dos. If you're in several circles, each one can see what's shared with it.
  • Parents in your circle. If you're a Child in a circle, parents can see your location status and receive driving and safety alerts about you.
  • Service providers who help us run Clivity, under contracts that limit how they use your data:
    ProviderWhat for
Google Firebase / Google CloudSign-in, database, file storage, and server functions
MapboxMaps, and turning coordinates into addresses
    OneSignalPush notifications
    AnthropicCliff, the AI assistant
    PostHogProduct analytics
AppleSign in with Apple and push delivery
  • Legal and safety. We may disclose information if required by law, or if we believe in good faith it's necessary to protect someone's safety, prevent fraud or abuse, or protect our rights.
  • Business changes. If Clivity is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that deal, subject to this policy.

5. Your choices

  • Location sharing: pause it in the app or in iOS Settings. If you're a Child in a circle, a parent manages your sharing in the app, and parents are notified if location access is turned off.
  • Drive detection: turn it off in Profile.
  • Calendars and contacts: choose what to share, and remove access in iOS Settings at any time.
  • Notifications: manage them in iOS Settings.
  • Circles: leave a circle at any time; the people in it stop seeing you.
  • Access and deletion: email us at hello@clivity.app to get a copy of your data or delete your account. [In-app account deletion: to be added before launch.]

6. How long we keep information

We keep information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide Clivity. Your live location is replaced as you move. [Retention periods for drive history, place visits, messages, and Cliff conversations to be finalized.] When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within [30] days, except where we need to keep it to comply with the law, resolve disputes, or prevent abuse.

7. Children

Clivity is built for families, so children may use it — but a parent or guardian must set up and manage a child under 13's participation, for example by adding them to a circle as a Child or pairing a device for them. By doing so, the parent consents to our collection and use of the child's information as described in this policy. Parents can review or delete their child's information, or stop further collection, by contacting us at hello@clivity.app. If we learn we've collected information from a child under 13 without a parent's involvement, we'll delete it.

8. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards, including encryption in transit and access rules that limit each person's data to the people they share a circle with. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your device and account secure too.

9. International users

Clivity is operated in the United States, and our service providers may process data in the US and other countries. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for these transfers.

10. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live (for example, California or the European Economic Area and UK), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. We don't sell or share personal information for targeted advertising. To exercise your rights, contact us at hello@clivity.app. We won't discriminate against you for exercising them. [Add the legal bases for processing and EU/UK representative details if Clivity is offered in those regions.]

11. Changes to this policy

We'll update this policy as Clivity changes. If we make material changes, we'll let you know in the app or by other means before they take effect.
